FAQ

When should I plant my garlic?

Our production fields are located in the Fraser Valley region, so we plant in fall (mid September to mid October). This allows for the cloves to root before winter hits and the ground freezes.

How do I best store my garlic?

Best to store garlic in a cool, well-ventilated, and dry place (10°C or room temperature and humidity at 40-65%) and out of direct sunlight.

What is the shelf life of my garlic?

Typically, the shelf life is from 4 to 6 months when stored properly. After 6 months, you will notice it beginning to sprout. For longer shelf life, you can freeze garlic in airtight ziplock bags and use all year long.

What is the difference of hardneck garlic from softneck garlic?

There are many differences. First, hardneck garlic produces a flowering stalk called a “scape” in its center, which soft neck garlic doesn’t. At Kinetic Farms Inc., we hand remove these scapes from each garlic plant so that the energy from this flower stalk returns to the bulb and this helps to produce larger cloves.

This leads to the second difference, which is that the cloves are larger in hardneck garlic in comparison to soft neck garlic. Easier to use in the kitchen!

Next is the flavour. Hardneck garlic is known for its stronger garlicky flavour in contrast to soft neck garlic being more milder flavour.

Last but not least, hardneck garlic thrives in cooler climates but soft neck garlic thrives in warmer climates with hot summers and mild winters.
